Many times been waiting anxiously for the last and final book in the epic tale. I am surprised that you didn't take to it. It redefined the way I think about our stone age ancestors. Full of herbal lore, magic ceremonies and the religious beliefs of a stone age culture. All of it based on real archeological discoveries of paleolithic Europe and the painted caves in modern day France.
It is a story of a Cro-Magnon girl who loses her family to an earthquake. Lost and dying from a cave lion attack she is found by a Neanderthal Medicine Woman who raises her and teacher her the skills of a medicine woman.
Cast out of the Clan at 14 she survives alone in a valley where she raises a baby horse, and a baby cave lion who become her "children" She discovers great magic along the way like controlling animals a thing unheard of in her time. She discovers how to start fires with pyrite and flint and many other skills she picks up in her young life. All which seems to be great magic to the people she eventually meets.
She takes a journey across Ice Age Europe with her new found love from the Baltic Sea to France in an epic journey.
Best story ever! You should give it another try.
